Pin Me ~ Week Thirteen ~ from my Pretty Posies Board ~ Petals Can Brighten Your Day

27 Apr

If you live in an area where you get to enjoy the four seasons, spring is an especially important one.

After a long, cold and snowy winter, you absolutely crave the warmth and color of spring. And pretty posies are the perfect solution to get you out of the winter blues.

photo(10)I really love the look of flower market flowers. There’s something about stems of gorgeous color displayed in various buckets that makes the flowers seem really romantic.

And with the warmer temps these days, you can find lots of flower market at many farmer’s markets. Fresh fruits, veggies and flowers…what’s not to love?

It was difficult to choose from all the gorgeous colors and types of flowers but there’s something about the tulip that just says SPRING! to me.

I couldn’t resist the gorgeous coral color.   photo(11)

Once the flowers fully opened up, the inside reminded me of a piece of cheese.  Can you see it, too?

Happy Thang: The tulips in my garden are starting to grow which means I’ll have more pretty posies soon!

Spring To Do’s–Check! Check! Check!

12 May

So seeing as it is almost half way through the month of May that can only mean one thing. SUMMER is right around the corner. Whoo to the hoo!

This got me thinking that I better check in on my Spring Want-To-Do list. So here is what I have accomplished since March 29:

Become a 3X Script Frenzy Winner – check

Paint that 24” X 24” canvas – check (see photo in this post)

Spend every free moment reading – check (and I’ve been able to read on my porch swing b/c of nice weather…bonus!)

I still have a few more to get done in the near future. Here is my full list of Spring Want-To-Do’s https://redcurlgurl.wordpress.com/2011/03/29/my-spring-want-to-dos/

But I’m feeling like I can cross the rest of them off in the near future.

I want to put my money where my mouth is (see 5/10 blog). I don’t remember the exact quote, but someone once said be the change you want to see happen (or something close to that).  So I promise at the end of each blog to post a moment of happy for you. It might be a quote, a photo or in today’s case a video. Enjoy!

Here is your happy moment for the day:

P.S. It’s National Hug Your Cat Day. So if you got ‘em, squeeze ‘em.

Happy Easter

I am going to tell you exactly what is on my mind and I can sum it up in three short words.

Hope your weekend is just as sweet!

You Know What Is Good On A Thursday Night? Ice cream.

7 Apr

Do you remember a few years back a show starring Anne Hecht called “Men In Trees?” The Sheriff of the town used a light box to emulate the sun’s rays since they didn’t get a lot of that in Alaska.

Since the first official day of Spring, I can count on one hand the number of days we’ve had sunshine. And it really is bringing people down. Everyone seems a little bit cranky standing in the grocery line, they are impatient at stop signs and nobody is wearing short sleeves.

I was thinking too bad light boxes weren’t available at every corner. Then, folks could get a little pick me up.  But then, I found something even better.

A mom-and-pop ice cream store with four lines of people waiting in the 40 degree weather to get some creamy goodness.

I had passed by it the other day and saw that the flavor of the month was soft serve mint ice cream. Yum. So I stopped the car, got out in the chilly weather and waited to get my cone.

It was like I was on a different planet. People were talking, smiling and laughing. They were trying to decide if they wanted sprinkles or hot fudge. If they were going to be good and only get a small size or splurge and get a large with extra whipped cream. Some folks stood there and ate their ice cream, while others ran back to the warmth of their cars but not one single person was grumpy or in a sour mood. Spring had arrived for them and it was in the form of cones, sundaes and milkshakes.

As I enjoyed my ice cream, I started to think about all the exciting things that are to come once it warms up.

My irises will bloom.
The vines on my latticework will form grapes.
I’ll be able to dine al fresco on the patio furniture.

And suddenly Spring started to feel like Christmas. I was going to have to wait for it, but once I unwrap that bow, I am going to throughly enjoy the gift inside.

Get Your Sunshine In A Photo

23 Mar

We had beautiful weather on Sunday, the first day of spring. Now just three days later, we have six inches of snow. Sigh.

It’s actually really beautiful clinging to tree branches and gently falling in that way that just makes you want to make a cup of cocoa and stare out the window. But we’ve had quite a lot of this winter so it feels more spirit dampening than anything.

GeorgeMichael tweeted today: “It’s 18 degree in London. If the sun is shining where you are send me pics of your gardens…beauty can be healing.”

By golly, George! You have something there.

I jumped on the computer and started opening all of my photos from travels to the Caribbean. And something miraculous happened. My snowy blues went to sunny smiles.

I have a plethora of photos that show white, white sand and blue, blue water. Palm trees. Hammocks. Sand Castles.

A Window With a View in St. Croix

But this one stuck out. The colors are vibrant and eye-catching, but I really liked it because I was seeing that view through a window.

How often we glance out a window and never stop to appreciate the view.  So I decided to look out my window again today.  After all, if I could love the white, white sands couldn’t I also love the white, white snow?

It’s the best of both worlds. Enjoying my current view and then, when I need a little pick me up warmth, enjoying the view through my lens.
