Pin Me ~ Week Ten ~ from my Shoes Board ~ These Boots Were Made for Country Concerts

26 Apr

What’s a girl gotta do when she wants some kickin’ Cowgirl boots for summer  Country concerts?

Go to Texas of course!

And I did.

Well, I didn’t exactly go for JUST boots. However, when I was there, I did look at many, many pairs of JUSTIN boots. Unfortunately nothing fit right. Either the toes were too crampy or the heels would slip off. I went through at least twenty pairs (some twice, you know, in case this first time was some kind of fluke).

I event tried on pairs at the Rodeo. The nice gal that was helping me suggested I try boot mules. Fashionable? Yes. Look I wanted? No.

I have several pairs of Cowgirl boots. But they are way too warm to wear in the sunshine. Last year, we went to several summer Country concerts, and a bunch of the gals were wearing cute little ankle high Cowgirl boots.

So I’ve been busy pinning mini Cowgirl boots in anticipation of finding the right pair for me.

I’ve search high and low. I contemplated buying them online but, after my experience of trying on so many pairs that didn’t fit, decided I needed to be able to see them, hold them, and put my foot in them to be sure.

I went to Texas. I went to New York City. And I found my Cowgirl boots in Jersey. Thanks DSW Shoe Warehouse!

My new boots are FAB! And I mean FAB! Love, love, love the color and the extra long point of the boot. My toes are comfortable and I can wear a sock in these so no blisters on the heels. Now bring on summer!

My Happy Thang: My Sweetheart set up our patio furniture last night. It’s Friday Night movie night which we’ll enjoy on our swing.

Last Friday, Dave Zinczenko (Editor-in-Chief of Men’s Health & Women’s Health and author of Eat This, Not That! series) tweeted this:

“WHAT WINNERS KNOW: The 1st rule of work/life balance: Sometimes you get more power when you completely unplug.”

Oh the timing of that tweet was spot on. It had been a particularly stressful week and I was just at that point. You know the one, where you either want to climb to the top of the mountain and scream or just dig a hole, crawl in it and hope to come out next spring.

The sea lions at Pier 39 in San Francisco unplug daily.

Fortunately, I did neither.

The weather was in the low 80’s with a cool breeze and I went to the beach all day on Saturday. There is nothing like a beautiful beach day to revive you. When all you have to do is remember to put on sun tan lotion and then the rest of the day’s decisions are no more trying than should I read my book or roll over and take a nap. Then you take a dip in the water, reapply the lotion and repeat aforementioned dilemmas.

And if that wasn’t enough to relax me, you know what I did on Sunday? I floated on a raft all day in my pool. That’s right. No house work. No yard work. No paying bills. Just complete relaxation on a $5.00 blow up raft. There was of course, applying of the sun tan lotion (I’m a pale redhead so that occurs often with me in the sun). But I am happy to report I went from ghost white to ecru this weekend.

The big bonus of Sunday’s day of recharging was the cute pool boy who brought me margaritas, snake bites and a bowl full of cherries.

Now what gal couldn’t unplug after a weekend like that?

With the official start of summer just days away, our weather has been FAN-TAS-TEEK!

Today was a perfect example. Low 80’s with a subtle breeze. The sun warm on your skin as it reflects off the dashboard of the car.

I loooooovvveeee music! I don’t know what it is about summer that makes me want to create various playlists especially one for when I am cruising around with the windows down and my wild red curls blowing all over the place.

Spring To Do’s–Check! Check! Check!

12 May

So seeing as it is almost half way through the month of May that can only mean one thing. SUMMER is right around the corner. Whoo to the hoo!

This got me thinking that I better check in on my Spring Want-To-Do list. So here is what I have accomplished since March 29:

Become a 3X Script Frenzy Winner – check

Paint that 24” X 24” canvas – check (see photo in this post)

Spend every free moment reading – check (and I’ve been able to read on my porch swing b/c of nice weather…bonus!)

I still have a few more to get done in the near future. Here is my full list of Spring Want-To-Do’s https://redcurlgurl.wordpress.com/2011/03/29/my-spring-want-to-dos/

But I’m feeling like I can cross the rest of them off in the near future.

I want to put my money where my mouth is (see 5/10 blog). I don’t remember the exact quote, but someone once said be the change you want to see happen (or something close to that).  So I promise at the end of each blog to post a moment of happy for you. It might be a quote, a photo or in today’s case a video. Enjoy!

Here is your happy moment for the day:

P.S. It’s National Hug Your Cat Day. So if you got ‘em, squeeze ‘em.

Re-Inventing the Swimsuit

6 Apr

Despite all the rain and cold we are having, I still believe that Spring is coming and behind it—SUMMER!

My mailbox has started to fill up with clothing catalogs all advertising the latest and greatest in swimwear. They have suits that will instantly make me look 10 lbs thinner by pushing up the boobs, sucking in the stomach and tucking in the bum. That’s great, except I’m not really worried about those areas.

Oh sure, my décolletage will be more attractive if it’s perky. Who doesn’t want a flat stomach? But on my best-I-didn’t-eat-pasta-last-night-days, I can suck it in with the rest of them. And as for my derrière, well, I have a motto: If I can’t see it, then it doesn’t really bother me.

But here’s what all those swimsuits lack: something to hold the floppy arms still and something to take care of the pale skin that hasn’t seen sun in months.

That’s why I think it would be brilliant for someone to invent the swimsuit that has the same nude body  material dancers costumes have when they want it to appear like they are exposing bare skin. It holds things in and makes them look tan all in one swoop.

So swimsuit makers of the world go for it! Just make sure I get a cut of the profits and you send me free swimsuits for life.
